I've been restoring a Dell Latitude ATG D630 laptop, back to its original condition, the past two weeks. It's going to be my new 'road warrior'. :)

Yesterday, I received a new OEM shock-mounted drive/caddy/cover assembly, in the mail, which was purchased on Fleabay. I was anxious to get it up and running, and test it -- however, I thought it would be a good opportunity to try a few of the other distros, sooooo...

First trial was Elementary Luna. I dunno. Something about it makes my skin crawl. Didn't even bother to install it.

Next, it was Crunchbang 11. Ran fine on a USB stick with persistence, but once it was installed on the HDD, it wouldn't even make it to the login screen before locking up. I tried several re-installs, to no avail.

Then, it was onto stodgy ol' Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Ubu appeared to install correctly, but my mouse pointer was frozen at the LightDM screen and desktop. Plus, the screen res wasn't correct, et cetera, et cetera.

Lastly, I tried the new Peppermint Four Re-Spin. OMG, what a relief?!?!?! I was starting to think my new ruggedized HDD was bad.

The re-spin went without a hitch. Ubiquity was beautiful -- worked like a charm -- good job devs.

On the first boot, everything was there and config'ed properly, except for my Dell 1390 WLAN mini-card. A couple of apt-get commands in CLI took care of that, and BOOM! There it was...

Anyway, kudos on the new re-spin. You're putting all those other distros to shame... :)
