In the thread "Peppermint 5 (Jan 17, 2014)" mac of Team Peppermint said

I know that Peppermint uses the time-bound scheme because it's made from Ubuntu.

there is no upgrade path from 4 to 5 so it will require a new install.

Wait, can't I use do-release-upgrade ? Do I really need to make a full backup of my data, clean install the operating system, restore the backup, reinstall a bunch of apps (like Vim, LibreOffice, LyX, etc.) and configure the system again every year? (If so, I think it sounds unusual to reinstall the whole system every year...)

Suppose you're using Peppermint 3 and you're very familiar with Peppermint and Linux in general--how will you upgrade to P4? (Since I started using Peppermint last week I've never done its distribution upgrade...)

"do-release-upgrade" was developed for non-graphical environments (server for example) and is not recommended for development / production environments. Run "do-release-upgrade -d" to check options....you'll find the Ubuntu upgrade but not Peppermint. Peppermint is, indeed, based on Lubuntu < Ubuntu but goes in its own direction from there. A release upgrade of Ubuntu will essentially leave you with Ubuntu and not Peppermint.

Of course you're free to give it a shot.....might be interesting.

You might want to read VinDSL's comments in IN THIS THREAD. He successfully ran P4 with a P2 /home. He might have some insight for you. :)

Thanks for marking the thread [SOLVED]
