Hello.
I try to install peppermint 4 from a bootable USB. The program starts in trial mode bu if I try to install the OS I get a failure message during the install process that /cdrom can't be unmounted.

After this message the process stays in a loop and want go further.
Thanks Martin

At the Installer boot menu, are you choosing "Try Peppermint OS Live" or "Install Peppermint OS?"
If you did not before, try again and choose "Try Peppermint..." and, once at the desktop, double-click the install icon. "Install Peppermint OS" on the Installer boot menu does not work well for anybody.

I tried both ways.
If I try to install the OS after booting successful into live OS after configuring the keyboard layout and timezone the system stay in a loop, but isn't crashed as one can still navigate.

If I try to install from boot menu I get a warning:
cannot unmount /cdrom
Then the computer stays in a loop.

Thanks Martin

When during the installation is this happening ?

I'm a bit baffled as to why the installer is trying to unmount the drive with the installer on it.

Have you tried creating the LiveUSB in another LiveUSB creator application .. or using a LiveCD instead ?

I used Lili as the USB creator and I tired the 32bit and the 64bit version.
I have UBUNTU precice 12.04 installed and I as I have a Acer Noteboock I'd like to give the Peppermint distro a try as it needs much less memory.

As Lili gives errors I tried UNetbootin as recommanded in the tutorial and I get the error:

Failed to load libutil.c32
Failed to load COM32 menu.c32

With Lili I got further, at least I could enter the trial version.
Also I tried 2 different USB sticks.

md5sum seems to be correct:
/Downloads$ md5sum Peppermint-4-20130611-amd64.iso
d535245967da19691a0a33d1894190c8 Peppermint-4-20130611-amd64.iso

Thanks Martin

If you have Ubuntu installed somewhere .. try installing usb-creator-gtk
Code:
sudo apt-get install usb-creator-gtk

then look through your application menu for "Startup Disk Creator" and use that to create the Peppermint LiveUSB

Here's what to expect -

Image

I've found it's usually best to let it format the USB stick first, so in the bottom pane select your USB stick, and hit the "Erase Disk" button, and enter your password if prompted.

Once the format is done, in the top pane, select the ISO image you want to create the LiveUSB stick from (if it's not already there, browse to it by clicking the "Other" button)

If you want the LiveUSB to be persistent (ie. able to save changes), make sure "Store in reserved extra space" is selected, and use the slider to adjust the size of the persistence file (the amount of room set aside for saving changes).

Click the "Make Startup Disk" button.

You'll be prompted for your password a couple of times before it tells you the LiveUSB has been created and is ready for use.

After creating the USB boot with "Startup Disk Creator" following the advice from your post I get an error:

SYSLINUX 3.63 Debian-2012-04-16 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2008 H Peter Anrim
Missing parameters in configuration file
boot:

As I mentioned I try to install peppermit as a 2nd OS on my ACER Netboock where i run Ubuntu precise.

So fare, making the boot USB with Lili, gives the best results, at least I could enter peppermint live desktop and navigate.
