Fresh Pep 4 install - just making sure everything works.

Everything seems ok - you tube and hulu are playing fine - sound works.

But the streams at Archive.org won't play - I think they are using an HTML 5 player.

I've run all the updates available.

Using the pre-installed Chromium browser

Example

http://archive.org/details/kim2013-10-17

This an old Dell P4 - with a Soundblaster card...

lspci says

Code:
02:02.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X
02:02.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs [SB Live! Value] Input device controller

That's a bit odd...I had no trouble running your example or any of the other streams / videos on that sight. Might I suggest a thing or two you can check.....

Run the following in your terminal...
Code:
sudo apt install pulseaudio pulseaudio-utils pavucontrol

After the install reboot and try the sight again.

Navigate: menu > Preferences > Software & Updates and check under the "Additional Drivers" tabs to see if there are any drivers available / recommended for your card.

Install Firefox and try the link there...
[sudo apt install firefox]

Another option (though HTML5 *should* work) would be to just click the "Prefer Flash" link under the track list on your example page ;)

Thanks for the replies...

Installing Pulse didn't seem to work.

But it does work in Firefox...

Does that make this a Chromium issue?

Really hoping to keep this machine in the Chrome world...

I just swapped out the soundcard with another model...same result.

No archive.org playback in Chromium...

Works for me in Chromium .. for both HTML5 and Flash options.

Try installing ubuntu-restricted-extras and lubuntu-restricted-extras

Did you try the archive.org "Prefer Flash" option instead of HTML5 ? <-- can you answer this

it's not going to be the soundcard if audio works everywhere else.

Do as PCNetSpec says and if still no go......

What version of Chromium-browser do you have? To check that....
Code:
dpkg -s chromium-browser

Look for version info about 7 or 8 lines down in the output.

Hi. I'm new, (as in, my very first linux install ever was this morning) and am having the same problem as the OP (except I was on LibriVox.org when I noticed the problem rather than archive.org). Hoping it's OK to ask here rather than starting a new thread.

So, having read the thread and tried some of the suggestions:

1.) I tried the "prefer Flash" option on the archive site, and that works. However, some of the other sites that I'm having this same issue with don't offer that option, so if there is a way to make the HTML 5 work, that would be helpful.

2.) Chrome works. Chromium doesn't work. Which wouldn't necessarily be a problem, except that it is also occurring in Ice.

3.) I did install the ubuntu-restricted-extras and the lubuntu-restricted extras, as suggested above. They didn't seem to help

4.) Chromium version is 30.0.1599.114-(theta)ubuntu(theta).13.04.2

Thank you for any help you can offer. - Amy

Can you post the output from this command:
Code:
dpkg -l | grep chromium
