Post subject:  Cannot login with my account anymore

Hi there, I installed peppermint and I'm very, very satisfied about this OS. Ice is simply wonderful. But I have a very serious problem .... After playing around I wanted to reboot and I cannot login anymore. The system is fixed in a loop. So I click my username, fill in the password ... a black screen appear for a second and the login field/screen appears again. So finally after searching on google, I did a clean install. Now two days later, my panel suddently disappeared . I read somewhere on the net that I could try to do a sudo startx. So I did .... and now .... I cannot login anymore. I added a new user in the console, but that's it .... please I hope there's someone out there who can help me ....

Login loops are often the result of full root partitions. To see if that's your problem boot to recovery mode and choose drop to root shell prompt.
Enter the command
df -h
Check the use percentage of your root partition.

Alternatively, you can boot the liveCD and use Gparted to check it.

Thank you for your reply. The full partition was not the problem. I did a new install and now it works. Maybe for other users, it's good to find a solution anyway.

If not (as mac suggested) a full partition, the second most common cause of a login loop is an Xserver problem.

Whilst I'm happy to hear you solved the issue with a reinstall .. these issues can usually be sorted without resorting to a complete reinstall.

Happy to hear your up and running again though :)
