Post subject:  HP 2512 Printer Setup Issues

I'm trying to get this HP2512 printer to play nicely with my Peppermint 3 OS. I have gone through the automatic installation, which loads a driver for HP2510 series printers. I have also loaded and installed every HPLIP item I saw in the repository. It looks like Peppermint recognizes my printer, but it seems not to want to print anything. If I select "printing" and then "HP Deskjet 2510 Series" and click on "print test page" what I get is a message: "test page submitted as job (whatever: 3, 4 or 5)"

In the box "printer state" it lists: "Idle - Rendering Completed." But no action out of the printer insofar as like loading paper and printing on said paper.

Try going into the CUPS interface:
http://localhost:631
(this is NOT an "online" website .. it's talking to the CUPS server on your PC through the loopback adapter)

Selecting the Administration (tab)
(if it asks for your username and password, it's your Peppermint ones it wants)

Then one at a time, deleting the printers.

When you have none left .. open a terminal and run:
Code:
sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

Now go to

menu>Preferences>HP Toolbox

and set up your printer in there.

====================================================

If that still doesn't work, can you post the output from:
Code:
dpkg -l | grep hplip

and
Code:
lpstat -p

and mention how your printer is attached .. USB or Wireless.

I installed hplip using the terminal as you suggested. I didn't have any luck setting up the printer inside the hplip toolbox . It does not list any devices.

The first command you listed produced this:

cchartm@cchartm-desktop ~ $ dpkg -1 | grep hplip
dpkg: error: unknown option -1

Type dpkg --help for help about installing and deinstalling packages [*];
Use `dselect' or `aptitude' for user-friendly package management;
Type dpkg -Dhelp for a list of dpkg debug flag values;
Type dpkg --force-help for a list of forcing options;
Type dpkg-deb --help for help about manipulating *.deb files;

Options marked [*] produce a lot of output - pipe it through `less' or `more' !

The other command produced this:

cchartm@cchartm-desktop ~ $ lpstat -p
WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-G5dMvz/pkcs11: No such file or directory
lpstat: No destinations added.

I'm connected to the printer via usb cable. Thanks.

For clarity .. there are NO numbers in the command:
Code:
dpkg -l | grep hplip

that's a lower case L not a 1

It may be easier to copy the command from this forum, and paste it into your terminal ;)

More info ..

According to this:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo ... eries.html
your printer needs a minimum hplip version of 3.12.6

ubuntu-updates for 12.04 and therefore Peppermint 3 only has version 3.12.2
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/co ... base/hplip

So your options are to download a new version of hplip and try to manually install it

or to wait for Peppermint 4 (currently in closed beta) which has hplip 3.13.3 by default
