I'm sorry if I'm using the wrong forum for this question. I'd like to make a bootable USB persistent installation of Peppermint 3 but I don't see a procedure for that in the instructions. Is that possible? If so please advise how it's done. Thanks. Jeff

If you're cre3ating the LiveUSB from within Windows, see if the first posting here helps:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=10313.0

If you're creating it with Linux, please mention which distro ?

Can you be a bit clearer .. in what way don't they help ? .. those instructions (Stage 1 at the above link) are specifically for creating a persistent Peppermint 3 LiveUSB in Windows ???

First picture at my link .. see the slider at the bottom, that sets the size of the persistence file.

Good new/bad news. I did get the persistant drive set although it took about a half an hour. After that when trying it out, it took several close to five minutes to boot up and then worked in slow motion. Basically, I found it unusable. I was using a Kingston 32 gig usb drive. I guess the drive is too slow, but in any case it's too slow for me. Thanks for your help. Jeff

LiveUSB's are definitely slower .. specially in systems with low RAM .. but that does sound excessive.

You could try a "proper" install to the stick .. dunno if it will be any quicker though.

Do you know if this is Peppermint specific .. have you tried say a Lubuntu 13.04 LiveUSB ?

My 2c, I have found that some Kingston flash drives have a very slow read / write speed. If you want a speedy persistent install you need to have a speedy flash drive.

I found a great page http://usbspeed.nirsoft.net/ mentioning disk speeds and a program, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html that you can use to test your flash drive.

If your flash drive is fast, try reinstalling the persistent setup with a different distro like PCNetSpec suggested.
