Hey there guys.

I've been searching around for netbook worthy distros for a while. Found Peppermint and thought it was fantastic. But before sticking with it - I thought I'd try CrunchBang. Here is where the problem starts. I am currently running CrunchBang 10 and trying to install peppermint 3.
I've put it on a usb - boot up and instead of the instalation screen appearing - I get a black screen with one line reading SYSLINUX copyright --- Peter Anvil.

I don't know where the issue is coming from to be honest - so I'm asking around in search of help and thought.

Oh, I downloaded the .iso from the official page.

Thank you very much .

Is this an Acer Aspire One by any chance ?

If so, immediately after turning on your PC hit and hold F10 to access the boot device selection screen.

Is the USB stick listed as a

USB HDD

or a

USB FDD

If it's listed as a USB FDD you'll have to use a different USB stick .. the AA1 can be quite choosy about which USB sticks it likes.

Another option may be to use a different LiveUSB creator, but that's unlikely to work on an AA1 if the USB stick is listed as a USB FDD

Yes, Acer Aspire One D270

It's labeled as FDD, it's a 4GB micro SD card plugged into an adaptor.
I'm sure it has been up till now labeled as HDD - either way, every install I've done on this system (more than quite a few) have been with this same card.
Is there any reason why it would have changed??

If you've used it before on the AA1 .. try reformatting it .. and/or a different application for creating the LiveUSB.

But it won't work whilst it's being recognised as a FDD (floppy disk drive)

=============================

One other thing to try ..

When you're at the SYSLINUX line .. what happens if you hit the "Tab" key

Then type peppermint

then hit enter.

I doubt if that'll work though

=============================

The only other option would be to try isohybrid(ing) the Peppermnt ISO image .. then using cat or dd to write the isohybrid image to the USB/SD card reader.

I've just reformatted the drive and am putting the .iso on.

Will come back and inform with whatever happens!

Well, I have no idea what I did differently but it worked! I am currently on Peppermint 3! :lol:
Thank you ever so much - that minor detail HDD instead of FDD definitely saved the day!!
