I had lost you ;)

i copied the boot folder and efi folders
it does not boot from legacy
booting from efi i have a first message saying error in prefix, or something similar
then i get a grub like menu proposing to try or install peppermint
from which i chose try
and after the booting peppermint screen it finished booting from disk (same punition, with a qwerty keyboard and impossible to connect :(

Tell me if anything looks weird in the messages.
event though i was very carefull this is not foolproof since i have many partitions on that machine (including an old lubuntu one) and had to cp -R from command line (as opposed to pcmanfm). I did it twice hence beleive this is correct but i might be wrong.

Nope sorry, I'm still lost :?

So does the Peppermint LiveUSB (efi) boot to a working desktop now ?

Or are you saying it's still booting the SSD's recovery partition when you select "Try Peppermint" ?

it is still booting to the same "something" i have seen and mentionned already, which is not the standard ubuntu (as installed and booted from on-disk grub),

which I believed to be from the recovery partition (but really i do not go anywhere else than the login screen, it does not recognise the peppermint user nor my default on-disk username, and does something strange with username "ubuntu", which is why I have believed this is from the recovery partition)..... :(

is there anything else i can try ?

Sorry .. I'm fresh outa ideas, and have no way to reproduce the problem :(

[EDIT]

I take it you've tried creating the LiveUSB with a different creator such as Unetbootin ?

I wonder if creating an isohybrid LiveCD/LiveUSB or Peppermint would make any difference .. or have you already tried that ?

I used the default startup disk creator from the menu
I do not know if it was there or installed by my from synaptics when i wanted to create that

I had tried a iso hybrid from some mint distribution but it did not work right away

If I am the only person in the world having that problem I do not want to waste too much of your time either. I will be happy to do some more testing if this can help though

If I were you I'd try Unetbootin .. and/or one of the Windows USB creators .. oddly, they all seem to edit the SYSLINUX/IOSLINUX menu's slightly differently.

If those don't work, we can try isohybrid(ing) the Peppermint ISO, then use the "cat" command to write it to a USB stick.

Beyond that I'm afraid I'm stuck for ideas.
