I have an HP G60 laptop, with win 7 on it. One of the partitions is damaged and it won't let me install Peppermint on the hard drive. I added a 32 gig SD card and it installed okay, but it won't boot from the card. any way to accomplish this? I changed the boot order but it doesn't have a device for the card. Has for a USB stick, and this is my next option.

Ho oldator

From what i can learn it doesn't look possible to boot from an SD card on your laptop, but it looks like you can boot from a usb device .

You can try getting into the boot menu at startup and see if the SD card is listed as a boot option if not then it looks like it's not possible

To access the boot menu try the following instructions

Quote:
Instructions
1
restart the computer.

2
Press the "Esc" key when the "Press the ESC key for StartupMenu" message appears on-screen. This message will come on while the Compaq logo is on-sceen.

3
Press the "F10" key when the Startup Menu appears on-screen to enter the Setup Utility Program.

4
Use the arrow keys to select the "System ConfigurationMenu."

5
Use the arrow keys to go to "Boot Options."

Thanks, Graeme, I checked the boot sequence, and it doesn't show an SD card, just USB. I had a USB stick in it before but it got damaged. I had the SD handy. Got another USB and am reinstalling now. It belongs to a friend of mine who is fed up with windows, and he said he dropped it or something. Thanks again.

It really depends on the BIOS and the card reader

if the BIOS can be set to boot from removal media, and recognise the SDcard as a bootable device you're good to go

But most card readers require drivers to be loaded by the OS .. obviously they're not bootable.
