Hello all!

New to Peppermint 3, linux user for a few years now. I was using Fuduntu until they announced they were closing it out, so I went hunting for an OS to fill the void on my crusty old Acer Aspire One AOA751h.

For those who don't know, this laptop is a problem child under the best of circumstances - a scsi hard drive that most of the mini-nixes have dumped (puppy, slitaz) and the infamous GMA500 Poulsbo intel video chip. Finding a decent modern linux that would work on this has been - challenging.

Thankfully, peppermint 3 is running great! Had to do the console=tty1 trick to fix the half-screen problem found in current 'buntus, after that installs and runs like a champ.

However, it is running hot - really really hot. And even though battery life in this notebook isn't great to start with, it's down to 1/2 an hour now.

I know this can be better, with Fuduntu I got an hour+ battery life and ran cool. Not so suprising, since the distro was spun by the guy who authored Jupiter.

That said, I'm not sure where to go with this. I understand 12.04 ubuntu was supposed to have better power management, but I've not seen it on any 'buntu distro. I could install jupiter, but I'm concerned if there is something native to peppermint that might conflict. I also was reading about a new "tlr power manager", but last time I tried it it killed my wifi.

Looking for suggestions on how to cool this critter off.

Thanks!

Tim Moulder

Go ahead and install Jupiter it's not given me any problems on three AOA110L's ;)
