I've noticed that sometimes when I'm making an SSB with Ice, I cannot get it to show anything but the Ice default icon. For example, if I turn https://twitter.com/ into an SSD and select to download the logo icon. It doesn't work. I just get the default Ice icon. It is the same if I try to use a customized 14KiB jpeg stored locally. Then if I make a SBB of The Washington Post and select to download a logo icon, it works. I have this with the BBC too. Radio Stations up to and thru' 6, Ice is fine. I have logos stored locally for all the stations. If I try to do the same with a regional BBC station, I cannot use a logo. All the SSB work normally, it is just the icon issue that is behaving weirdly. Any thoughts why this is happening would be great as, it has me baffled.

You've lost me......

Ice will only download favicons if the site has one.

I take it you mean you've tried editing a .desktop file created with Ice and pointed it at another image to use as the icon ?

if so, what does the .desktop read now ?

Sorry about that. It is when try to make an Twitter SSB with Ice. I copy and paste the URL into Ice, name it, "Twitter", select internet for menu destination and then select, "or try to use the site icon". The SSB is created and is in the right location. However it uses the default Ice icon. No problem, I then delete the SSB and remake it, only this time I use an icon I have prepared earlier, (I've always wanted to say that :lol: ). The SSB still uses the default Ice icon. If I make a different SSB with a home made icon it works. With Facebook, Ice won't use the site icon. It will use a homemade one though. My home made icons are all saved in the same location.

Just to add a further test. I made a SSB with Ice of the LinuxMint forums. I tried to manually assign a Twitter icon to it as a test. The SSB is created and in the right location. However the icon is for LinuxMint. It has been downloaded and assigned to the SSB even though this option wasn't selected.

Make a "Twitter" SSB again.

Now post the output from
Code:
cat ~/.local/share/applications/twitter.desktop

========================================================

Do you have any SSB's that don't work ?

I think I've cracked it. It is the format of the .png name. I changed it from twitter logo.png to twitter.png. My knackered old eyes missed the "space" between, "twitter" and "logo" in the name of the .png. Ice obviously doesn't like spaces. :) !

No it won't like spaces, as file names with spaces will require enclosing in quotation marks in the .desktop file ;)

On the whole, Linux doesn't like spaces in filenames or paths without special treatment.
