Here you go, Underwhelming describes it perfectly. Thanks for the help.

Code:

Out of curiosity, what does this show?

Code:
sudo lspci -v -s 00:02.0

Looks like we're running the same driver -- but, different kernel module...

Code:
vindsl@Necksa ~ $ modinfo i915

Of course everything is working beautifully now. Not that its a problem. I'm more curious than anything. I'll manage to replicate the issue when I'm not thinking about it. Sods Law! :)

Don't know if you're using it already, but the 'hardinfo' proggie saves a lot of typing...

It''s available via Synaptic and/or Software Manager... ;)

Thank you very much for this. This is very helpful, not that I mind using the terminal or typing. I try to use it for all my maintenance. The practice is good for me :D !

Yes, the screen has just started to blank out again. The last things I did was to install in the terminal, HardInfo. I then needed to use xkill on a frozen SSB. The output from, "xset q" is:
Code:
Hello, Welcome to my Peppermint OS Four Terminator terminal!!
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $ xkill
Select the window whose client you wish to kill with button 1....
xkill:  killing creator of resource 0x3264f3d

I hope this helps to shed light on this mystery :? .

Post subject:  Re: Screen keeps blanking out.

Hi this issue occurs mainly after I come out of hibernation. Less often, the screen just randomly starts to blank every 10 mins. I have the DPMS set in autostart to disable after a sleep of 360 secs. When I boot up the machine, this works perfectly. I have just come out of hibernation and this is the output of the DPMS:
Code:
DPMS (Energy Star):
  Standby: 3600    Suspend: 0    Off: 0
  DPMS is Enabled
  Monitor is On
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $

As you can see the Monitor should be Off. If I log out or reboot the screen behaves as expected; it remains on all the time. I have never been able to get the Xfce power management to work properly. Only some of the setting seem to work, while others work intermittently or not at all. It appears to think I'm on battery 100% of the time. The only time I really unplug the power adapter is when I shutdown or hibernate the machine. It is very occasionally that I run the machine off the battery. Please let me know if more info is needed. Other than this little niggle, Peppermint OS Four is running like champ. The more I use it, more impressed I become :D

I'm assuming it's firing DPMS back up as it exits resumes .. we can probably script round that.

The thing that;s bothering me is you say it occasionally blanks even though it's not been into suspend at all .. are you sure of this ?
have you got acpid installed ?
Code:
dpkg -l | grep acpid

Post subject:  Re: Screen keeps blanking out.

Hi and thanks, here is the output you requested:
Code:
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $ dpkg -l | grep acpid
ii  acpid                                         1:2.0.18-1ubuntu1                        i386         Advanced Configuration and Power Interface event daemon
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $

The screen blanked out again even though the DPMS was disabled. When I checked using xset q, the DPMS is enabled and the monitor is on. Stange eh!
