Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a great weekend. I have set the DPMS on my PM4 32bit to auto disable after 45sec. This it apparently does according to the "xset q" output.
Code:
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $ xset q
Keyboard Control:
  auto repeat:  on    key click percent:  0    LED mask:  00000000
  XKB indicators:
    00: Caps Lock:   off    01: Num Lock:    off    02: Scroll Lock: off
    03: Compose:     off    04: Kana:        off    05: Sleep:       off
    06: Suspend:     off    07: Mute:        off    08: Misc:        off
    09: Mail:        off    10: Charging:    off    11: Shift Lock:  off
    12: Group 2:     off    13: Mouse Keys:  off
  auto repeat delay:  500    repeat rate:  33
  auto repeating keys:  00ffffffdffffbbf
                        fadfffefffedffff
                        9fffffffffffffff
                        fff7ffffffffffff
  bell percent:  0    bell pitch:  400    bell duration:  100
Pointer Control:
  acceleration:  20/10    threshold:  10
Screen Saver:
  prefer blanking:  yes    allow exposures:  yes
  timeout:  600    cycle:  600
Colors:
  default colormap:  0x22    BlackPixel:  0x0    WhitePixel:  0xffffff
Font Path:
  /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,built-ins
DPMS (Energy Star):
  Standby: 0    Suspend: 0    Off: 0
  DPMS is Disabled
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $
The screen is still blanking out after after around 10mins. I've tried, "xset-dpms", "xset+dpms" and rebooting. After 45secs the xset q output says the dpms is disabled and yet the screen still blanks out.

Any thoughts would be great, many thanks :? !

This is what I use to turn off screen blanking...
Code:
xset s off && xset dpms force on && xset -dpms

To check the status:

Code:
xset q | grep -A1 -i dpms

Mmm! This is well weird. I just did another reboot and it appears to be working. Having said this, it will probably start acting up again as soon as I post this. This is what I have in
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/xdg/autostart/dpms-off.desktop

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=DPMS Off
Comment=Disable DPMS
Exec=bash -c "sleep 45; xset s off; xset dpms force on; xset dpms 0 0 0; xset -dpms"
Terminal=false

This should work every time, 45 secs should be plenty of time for the system to settle down. As I said, weird :? .

Depends on your rig, of course...

Takes a few seconds for my WiFi to connect.

Then, Dropbox & UbuOne have to sync, which takes a while.

Then, there's Conky & ConkyWX (which I 'sleep' for 90 sec) blah, blah, blah.

I 'sleep' Trim for 5 minutes...

Just depends on your setup. ;)

Yeah, I whacked the sleep up to 360 secs. I think its SpiderOak hogging everything while it scans the disks on startup. I'll wait and see what happens.

I might mention...

I disable 'xscreensaver'.

Code:
$ gksudo gedit /etc/xdg/lxsession/Peppermint/autostart

Code:
@lxpanel --profile Peppermint
# @xscreensaver -no-splash
@xfce4-power-manager
@pcmanfm --desktop --profile peppermint
@/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
@mintinput1
@xdg-user-dirs-gtk-update
@xbindkeys
@sh /home/vindsl/.config/autostart/conky-autostart-90sec-delay.sh

Never did care for that proggie.

Just saying... ;)

Yup, I totally agree. It was one of the first thing I did after I installed Peppermint. The damn thing drives me crazy. It slows down the boot up process so much. Anyway 360 secs worth of sleep seems to have done the trick. I'll leave it a while before I call it solved but I think its, "job's a good'un" - I hope ;) !

Oh well, It seems everything was fine for hours. Now suddenly the screen has started to blank out again after about 10 min. The output from, "xset q" still indicates that DPMS is disabled. Its got me baffled.

I take it you're SURE it's not the xscreensaver or xfce-power-manager that's blanking the screen ?

if so, run:
Code:
xset q

and post just the DPMS section .. the bit at the bottom that reads sommat like:-
Quote:
DPMS (Energy Star):
Standby: 0 Suspend: 0 Off: 0
DPMS is Enabled
Monitor is On

Hi and sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The issue seems to be intermittent. I'm trying to replicate whatever kicks it off. I don't think it anything to do with DPMS. That is setup to disable after 6mins. It does this without issue. Here is the etc/xdg/autostart
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=DPMS Off
Comment=Disable DPMS
Exec=bash -c "sleep 360; xset s off; xset dpms force on; xset dpms 0 0 0; xset -dpms"
Terminal=false

and the DPMS output
Code:
DPMS (Energy Star):
  Standby: 0    Suspend: 0    Off: 0
  DPMS is Disabled
andy@andy-AMILO-Li3710 ~ $

As you can see everything is hunky dory. However, at some point in time, the screen will start to blank. it continues to blank every 10 mins until I perform a logout or reboot. The DPMS output while this is happening remains unchanged. It really got me scratching my head :? !
