Hi guys and congratz on the new Peppermint 4.

i read somewhere that you can update distros, rather than re-install the complete package.

Is this so and is it recommended?

I did have some issues with my Peppermint 3 install, because I installed via a MVK switch and that resulted in a low resolution option only on a LCD screen.
I have already downloaded Peppermint 4, so that is not an issue, but I would like to try and bypass any of the previous issues I had.

Afraid not, HecticZA. PeppermintOS is not a rolling release distro. Maybe some day.

We strongly advise backing up your data or moving it to cloud storage such as Dropbox, Box.net, or Google Drive and then reinstalling. Peppermint releases are based on every other Ubuntu release so though it's technically possible to upgrade, doing so is discouraged as system breakage is extremely likely.

HecticZA, if you copy these 2 files off of PM3 to say a USB stick or dropbox

/etc/X11/xorg.conf
and
/etc/X11/benq-edid.bin

Then after installingt PM4 and adding the nvidia drivers .. just copy them back, chances are it will just work .. but if not we can sortt it out.

Up to you ....
