This is not a specific problem to PeppermintOS, but maybe putting this here will help someone else find the solution. Apparently, ASUS installed the webcam on some of their netbooks upside down and then corrected it with software. So in Skype, the video come out upside down. The solution below worked in Peppermint 2, but does not work in Peppermint 3. Any ideas?

The solution that worked for me in Peppermint 2 is here:

How to fix upside down picture in Skype (Chocony Webcams on Asus Notebooks on Linux Fedora and Ubuntu)
Posted on March 27, 2011 by Jonathon Poppleton

The solution to the upside down webcam picture in Skype is to use libv4l when opening Skype.

To get Skype to display the webcam picture the right way up, open a terminal and type:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

This works with both Fedora 14 x86_64 and Fedora 14 x86.

To make Skype open with libvl in Gnome Desktop, right click the Skype icon, then go to properties and paste the following command into the command box:

env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

I'm responding to my previous post because the previous solution that worked with Peppermint 2 does not work with Peppermint 3. Is there anyone who can help figure this out?

When running the terminal command
Code:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

it returns this error
Code:
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4lcompat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

I don't know if that helps, but maybe.

Thanks.

Try this:
Code:
sudo find / -name 'libv4l' -type d

It may take a few seconds but it will reply with the location of your libv4l. Then use that info to make the appropriate changes in your guide http://poppleit.com/how-to-fix-upside-d ... 7-03-2011/

post back after trying it

regards
mac

The path to v4l1compat.so has changed in Ubuntu 12.04 (and therefore Peppermint Three) .. so try this:

Code:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype

If that doesn't work .. search for v4l1compat.so (as mac suggests) and adjust the command.

That's it. Thanks to both of you!
The code here returned this error after testing the video in Skype and closing Settings, but it worked anyway:
Code:
libv4l2: error dequeing buf: Invalid argument

Thanks again.
