I've noticed over the past two or three weeks a slight delay in Peppermint starting up. I'm not talking Windows boot up times here, just a slightly noticeable slowdown in boot time and getting on to the internet. In real terms 5-10 seconds longer. Once it's up and running it's not so noticeable, just the initial start.

Is there any way I can find out what's happening?

If it was Windows I'd be over the moon at the speed but because it's Peppermint I can tell it's slower and it's concerning me in case it's the start of something that will get worse.

Thanks.

Hello Dave
Bleachbit is pretty good at cleaning out unnecessary files that slow you down. In your terminal, do the following.....
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install bleachbit

Invoke the application via menu > System Tools > Bleachbit
Or, use the Run function (Alt/F2) and type bleachbit
You can also use bleachbit_cli which you invoke in terminal (specify option)

In your terminal (after installation) type
Code:
man bleachbit-cli
and read up on it. You might also want to visit http://bleachbit.sourceforge.net/.

regards
mac

Wow!!

Thanks mac. I have to admit and say that was scary stuff :o When I saw what Bleachbit was going to delete I nearly bottled it

Then I thought in for a penny in for a pound let's do it! I had visions of being knocked back to the command line at boot but it all came back perfectly. And the bonus was it reclaimed nearly 1 gig of disc space.

Much appreciated mac, thanks. :D

You did well, demag. It's nice when stuff works, isn't it? Run bleachbit from time to time to help keep your system lean and mean.

mac
