I have forgotten my login password.
I had also chosen to "encrypt my home folder" during installation.
When I open my homefolder using other linux on my pc,I get this thing. These files can be copied but I cant open them:
(blue area in pic is my username.)

Someone on web said about pass-phrase file.I have it but I think the passphrase is also wrapped.

I know If decryption without password is possible,it defies the whole purpose of encryption... but still if some hack is possible..
Please Don't laugh on my situation! Do something.

You can reset your password (create a new one) like this:
boot to recovery mode and choose the root shell prompt option
at the resulting root prompt type "passwd your-user-name" (no quotes)
enter your new password as your are prompted (twice)
then type "sync" (no quotes)
then type "reboot -f" (no quotes)

that will get you into your system with a new password
you might want to write this one down somewhere

regards
mac

Thanks for trying mate.
When I enter it again says the same thing (enter pass or control D).
May be the trick worked on older versions?
And yes I have encrypted my home folder..
I am sure there must be some way.

I am trying this method found on other site:
Turn your computer on.
5. Press ESC at the grub prompt.
6. Press e for edit.
7. Highlight the line that begins kernel ........., press e
8. Go to the very end of the line, add rw init=/bin/bash
9. press enter, then press b to boot your system.
10. Your system will boot up to a passwordless root shell.

I will tell you if that works.. :?

Here's a [ubuntu] site with pics & a video.....might help: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
If it does not then a re-install may be your only option.

regards
mac
