Hi guys...
I'm wondering if I can may LXDE be a little more well behaved on a dual-head. That is lxpanel (and the wallpaper) occupy both monitors (ie, they are stretched). Maybe that isn't odd for LXDE, but it seems a little odd coming from another (non-LXDE) distro.

Not positive what you want, but I'm assuming clone desktop is close.

I have no problem using xrandr to create a dual head (extending the display).... It's lxpanel (and the wallpaper) settings.

extending and cloning are 2 different things.

clone duplicates. That's not what I want. I want extend. XFCE, KDE, Gnome2 all support limiting the taskbar (and wallpaper) to the primary display (as well as Openbox/tint2).
Is there such a setting in LXDE. This isn't an xrandr question, rather an LXDE one.

Sorry, I can't answer the LXDE question, hopefully someone else will have some insight for you.
The only methods I would be familiar with to accomplish what I think you want, is via xrandr and an xorg.conf, so in my experience/methods of customising desktops/monitors it would be an xrandr/xsession & pcmanfm vs feh & lxpanel question. My bad.

I struggles with this very issue myself for a while. I got the panel and wallpaper to stretch by replacing xrandr with grandr. The only issue I had were windows not behaving nicely. They would only maximize to the primary display.

No, I don't want it to stretch. I want the taskbar on the primary and the wallpaper on the primary. xrandr extends the display. the problem is not xrandr, XFCE's taskbar is just fine with the xrandr settings. It seems to be lxpanel.

My answer was based upon what I thought you wanted in your original post. If you can explain it better or provide a screen shot of what it is you are trying to achieve I'd be happy to help.

I'm not sure from your post exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish but if it's what I think it is I don't know how to do it. But, I might have a workable alternative. You can auto-hide lxpanel so that you don't see it at all until you need to access it. If that would work for you do this: R-click on the panel (blank space) > Panel Settings > Advanced and tic "Minimize panel when not in use." If that won't do it for you then just ignore the post.
