Sorry if this isn't the right forum - I've just seen the release announcement for OS Two, so I'd like to know whether I will be able to upgrade my current installation via the usual update procedure, or is a reinstall necessary?

To clarify this one a bit. Because of some rather severe changes in the code base between major versions, we do strongly advise backing up and reinstalling. It would be easier to support version upgrades if I had a team of maintainers who could patch everything to where it would work seamlessly, however the bulk of the development is done by me alone. Forum user justin does a lot of the pre-release bug tracking, but even if I could get him on board full time we'd still need another couple of dozens sets of hands.

So it is a good job that One is supported until 2013. A clean install will need all the settings and software to be reinstalled this took over a week with Peppermint One.

I like the present software as it has given new life to my 12 year old laptop and I am now converting my Desktop computer to Linux.

Maybe I will wait until support end before going through the the issues of installing a new operating system.

Keep up the good work.

Yeah, if you like One and it's still working for you, keep on trucking. That's what LTS releases are for. 8-) If it took me that long to install everything and get it to where I wanted it, I would stick to LTS as well. (most people probably would) That's great that you're still able to use that 12-year-old computer with Peppermint. :)

you can always do a dual boot and gradually implement your regular settings to the new install, and later on just relieve the old one and make it common storage space

IIRC, Perppermint One is based on Lubuntu 10.04.

According to http://lubuntu.net/blog/lubuntu-1004-now-available-download "Lubuntu is currently not part of the Ubuntu family, and not build with the current Ubuntu infrastructure. This release is considered as a « stable beta », a result that could be a final and stable release if it was included in the Ubuntu family. Please note also that Lubuntu 10.04 is not a LTS version. For the future we aim to include all packages of lubuntu in the Ubuntu repository."

Which means that after October 2011 (18-months) there are no guarantees.
