Difficulty: Straightforward - some manual editing of config parameters
Time: Ten minutes
Desirability: Makes Firefox faster

Firefox is the default browser for Peppermint. Firefox is fast safe and is not a notorious spammer like Internet Explorer is. In this tutorial I will show you how to make Firefox run faster thus getting you to your favorite website sooner. First you need to start Firefox and up in the address bar erase http://start.ubuntu.com/10.04/Google/ and replace it with about:config and press enter. A warning screen will appear just click on the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button and off we go. First thing we are going to do is disable IPv6. You should see a bar right under the about:config tab that is proceeded by the word filter, this is the search bar so just type in
Code:
network.dns.disableIPv6
. Next double-click on the default value and it will change it from False to True.

Here are some more easy ways to speed up Firefox. Open up Firefox and up in the URL bar type in this and hit enter.

Code:
about:config

Now click on the "I'll be careful, I promise" and lets get started. These next modifications will make Firefox render pages faster. Right click on an empty space on the list and click New -> Integer and a empty box will open for you to enter your modification. Your first one will be this.

Code:
content.notify.backoffcount
and set the value to 5.

Now right click again on an empty space and click New -> Integer and in the box type in this.

Code:
nglayout.initialpaint.delay
and set the value to 0.

The next modification will speed up menus in Firefox. Right Click on an empty space and click New -> Integer -> and type this in the box.

Code:
ui.submenuDelay
and set the value to 0.

These next tweaks will boost performance for users who have a broadband connection. In the filter box up at the top type in
Code:
network.http.pipelining
and then double click on the value to change it from "False" to "True". Now in the filter box type in
Code:
network.http.proxy.pipelining
and double click on on the value to change it from "False" to "True". Now lastly in the filter box type in
Code:
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
and change the value from 4 to 8.
