Thought I'd post this, in case somebody is looking for a simple audio recorder proggie, for recording classes, workshops, seminars, or whatever .

My trusty micro-cassette tape recorders are getting old enough that I don't trust them for mission critical recordings. Quality replacements are hella expensive these days, too.

Inexpensive digital equivalents used to be of an acceptable quality, but the most recent models are getting smaller, lighter, flimsier, and becoming unnecessarily complicated to operate. If you don't press the buttons in the correct sequence, you run the risk of erasing your saved recordings and/or recording nothing, even though you think you are.

There are many other ways to record audio -- cellphones, pocket video cams -- whatever. There are pros n' cons to all of them. No reason to turn this into a diatribe.

All I needed was a quick n' dirty solution, that suited my needs, and is stupid-simple to operate. 'Audio Recorder' filled the void.

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:osmoma/audio-recorder

Code:
sudo apt-get update

Code:
sudo apt-get install audio-recorder

That's it!

'Audio Recorder' integrates seamlessly with Peppermint Four Re-Spin (on my Dell Latitude notebooks).

Playback via the rather featureless 'GNOME MPlayer' is a kludge, but it works.

A much better playback solution is 'VLC Media Player'. But, that's fodder for another discussion... ;)

BTW, if you don't want 'Audio Recorder' to auto-start @ login, disable (uncheck) it via the 'Desktop Session Settings' utility.
