Class: Installing Lexmark printer
Difficulty: Installing proprietary drivers
Time: 20-30 minutes
Desirability: Get Lexmark all in one working

This is part two of this How To, for this to work you mus complete part one first which can be found here.

This will show you how to print wirelessly on a Lexmark 3600-4600 printer.

To access your CUPS configuration open a firefox window (other browsers may work, chromium crashed on me) and in the address bar type:

Code:
localhost:631

and hit enter. You should end up with a screen that looks like this.

Select the "Printers" tab along the top (right hand side).

Select the lexmark printer from the list. This will give you a info/settings screen. There are two drop down menus, in the right menu selet "Modify Printer". You will need to login to change the settings.

In the settings selct the "AppSocket/HP JetDirect" option.

Image

The next screen will give you a field to enter a URI for the printer it needs to be formatted like this:

Code:
socket://printer.ip.address:9100

On my network my printer has the ip of 192.168.1.103 yours will probably be similar but might not be the same.

Click "Continue" and it will allow you to enter a printer location.

At this point you need to select your printer from the drop down menu. My printer falls in the 3600-4600 category but others appear to be supported (I have not tested them however).

You will now be returned to the printer info/settings page. You can now print a test page (I would recommend this), the left drop down menu has an entry for printing a test page.

Don't get concerned if it doesn't print immediately, I experienced approximately a 30 second delay between giving the print command and any response from the printer.
