tired of never being able to view youtube videos.... since i dunno when, i uninstalled my flashplugin and am wondering what we're supposed to do in linux now that we're no longer being supported by adobe? Should I just reinstall it hoping to repair what was broken? or move on to something else?

it wasn't working in seamonkey nor in chromium...

Yeah there's a few options (such as use pepperflash) but first, just run:
Code:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer

then close ALL web browser instances, and reopen one.

Does flash now work for youtube ?

doesn't work in seamonkey... same error message... but this link plays the first 3 seconds of every video in his feed... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvR21kmtyiI&list=UUPSnRxko_G21KzwgXmOZaeQ which i suspect is his office's uploading problem not mine...

doesn't work in chromium either... get less than the first two seconds of video before "an error has occurred... appears

Not much help saying "same error message" if you haven't said what the error message was ;)

That link plays fine for me .. so it's NOT a problem at his end.

clicking all youtube videos (save that one from Jeff Flake) gives me a few seconds of playback, then the screen goes fuzzy like old fashioned TVs and tells me "An Error has occurred ... learn more"

which seems to be an old problem, but has only been a problem for me for the last month or so...

have you tried disabling hardware acceleration by right-clicking the the video that's being displayed in flashplayer .. selecting "Settings" and taking the tick out of "Enable hardware acceleration" ?

yes... unticking hardware accelleration, makes the first three seconds repeat a couple times before the "An Error has occurred... " appears

Try Google Chrome .. it has it's own flashplayer (pepperflash)
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

download the .deb version for your architecture (32bit or 64bit) .. and just double-click it to install.

If Chrome can play flash, we'll set Chrome to use its pepperflash instead of the Adobe version.

I'm only really interested to see if it works .. if it does, we can get chromium to use pepperflash, then uninstall chrome if you like.

[EDIT]

Can you also post the output from:
Code:
uname -a

[EDIT 2]

Does sound not work AT ALL (including local files), or only on some links ?
