So... my eeepc 1025c runs on Peppermint 4.
I have the system on a partition, and the Home on another.

Online there are lots of guides explaining how to setup a dual boot of Linux+Win8 ... but they all assume you get Win8 and then add Linux to it... is there not a way to do the opposite?

Also, being my Home in a separate partition, should I take extra/special precautions/steps during the installation process?

At the momenti I was going to use THIS guide to create a Win8 usb stick under linux.
Do you advise a different way?

Hmm .. Windows and it's boot partition (win7/8) MUST be on primary partitions so you'll need to be sure you've only used 2 of the 4 primary partition limit.

As long as you have only used 2 primary partitions it's quite easy to install Windows after Linux, but bear in mind installing Windows will break the Linux bootloader (GRUB) so after installation you'll only be able to boot into Windows until you either

a) reinstall GRUB from a LiveCD/LiveUSB
or
b) use EasyBCD to add Peppermint to the Windows bootloader

It's my guess though that you've already used 3 primary partition .. so this may not be possible.

So first things first .. what's the output from:
Code:
sudo fdisk -l

You currently have 3 primary partitions (out of a possible 4) .. But I'm 99.9% sure Win8 requires 2

a 100mb "system reserved" partition
and
a "C: drive partition"

If I'm right .. you're stuck.

Theoretically if you had an external drive with enough room you could move your Linux partitions off .. repartition creating a large "extended" partition for Linux .. then copy the linux partitions back as "logical" partitions inside the extended partition.

But it would probably be less hassle to just write off the Linux installation .. backup any docs/etc. you can't afford to loose.
Then wipe the drive .. install Win8 .. then install Peppermint on logical partitions inside an extended partition.

===================================================

[EDIT]

Another option would be to do away with your separate /home partition .. this would mean copying it's contents to the / partition then adjusting the mount in fstab.

Then you'd be able to delete the /home partition, leaving you enough free primary partitions for Win8.
