Yeah, I couldn't get it to install. I suppose the last thing I can try is purging PCManFM and installing it again to see if it fixes the file association problems. That shouldn't cause any problems right? A simple remove won't remove the configs, IIRC, and I probably need new config files.

I probably won't install Peppermint 4, as aside from these PCManFM issues, everything else works great (though I never did figure out how to get xrandr to cooperate with my University's projector, but that's a minor issue).

good luck getting .docx etc. working properly, I had a quick go and couldn't figure it out .. beyond those everything seems to work though.

Would it help if I uploaded copies of my (PM4) defaults.list and mimeapps.list to my dropbox and give you a link (for comparison) ?

Or maybe you could just replace the ones on your system with the defaults from a LiveCD of PM3

BTW, if it's your "defaults.list that's somehow become screwed up .. that's contained in the desktop-file-utils package .. not pcmanfm

If other file associations have become messed up .. have you tried renaming


it *should* get regenerated if you save any custom associations.
