So.. Am I really the only person having problems with peppermint 4 taking forever to reboot or shut down? I'd banked on a fresh install giving me a new slick start... 4 hours later this seems to be a waste of my time on HP laptops...

It could be a hardware issue, something could be failing. If something is failing, the OS could be stuck in a loop while trying to activate/deactivate it, causing the extremely long times. At least, that's one theory. ;)

It would seem so .. did we at any stage have this happen before ?

Did we not at some point try a different kernel ?

Maybe this is just one of those times combo's that for one reason or another would be happier with PM3 ? .. or did PM3 also give you problems ?

8pm and the last reboot was still "shuting down" so i did a hard reboot/shift key/nomodeset to get back into the fresh install of peppermint 4... need to remind myself how to make that permanent

i have had to jump ahead to get kernels which had better support for my Ralink Wifi drivers PCNetSpec, but WiFi is currently working... its the usb mouse and the rebooting that are still giving me fits...

i've got the right AMD drivers installed now...

need to revisit the thread about getting wifi back up to 100%...

ahh well... more triage tomorrow...

Have you tried removing ALL USB devices (specially that mouse) and checked if it will reboot ?

Is the problem with rebooting just that it won't .. or that (as you mentioned in another thread) that it's rebooting on its own ?

mouse is still connected to the other Toshiba as it has been since i managed to recollect how to re-enable the touchpad... as for rebooting, it just won't on its own... i always come back to find peppermint4 is still "shuting down"
i've inserted nomodeset into the grub config file permanently and this morning attempted to let it reboot with no intervention on my part, got stalled at

got a similar message about udev384, and eventually did a hard reboot again to get the hp up and running...

don't recollect that my laptop has ever decided to reboot of its own volition... but i'm no longer getting random messages that "re
movable media has been inserted" since i did the fresh peppermint4 install...

;~)

Secondly, I allowed the Gnome Software Updater to give me all of today's updates before attempting another reboot... first reboot got stuck, hadta do a hard reset... amazingly, the next two boots have been successful, needing no intervention from me... about a minute and a half timewise...

now let me test the mouse; voila... it works...

let me play with this for a while before i decide this is [Resolved]

:P

reboot now occurs just shy of 70 seconds :D

the khubd error definitely points towards USB being the culprit .. but if it's working now, maybe there was an update to the USB subsystems .. but who cares right :)

definitely don't care why its all working now PCNetSpec... just offer up a bit of praise and thanks to those who keep the kernel updated...
