The swap partition acts like a extension to your RAM. If you are very familiar with the Windows file system structure is is pretty much like pagesfile.sys file but it is much better. Linux dose not work without a swap partition so it is created automatically when you install Peppermint on your system so you don't need to worry about it. Swap dose not give you more RAM per-say, if you have 2Gb of RAM then that is all you have, swap is there to help out when you have many applications running at one time so your system dose not getting sluggish.
