Seems to be right up the ' Peppermint Alley ' and ripe for future consideration as the default browser...

Just like Peppermint OS, eh what? :D

Does it do --app mode .. ie. can you have multiple instances, and can those instances open without tabs/toolbars/etc. ?

Time will tell.

I doubt that they would give me access to a dev branch, trunk build, or whatever, but...

They might give one to you guys. 8-)

Looks quite good so far .. and in answer to my own question, YES it does "--app" mode too (as it's obviously chromium based), so would be trivial to edit the ice python script to work with it.

I posted a screenie, in the thread above, showing the Maxthon Linux Beta running on Peppermint Four Re-Spin. LoL!

Might as well spread 'the love'.... :D

Interesting! Er... scary, actually.

I didn't know you could copy n paste your 'bookmarks' and 'saved password' files between Chromium-based browsers... and they would still work.

I've tried that before in Thunderbird mail client -- trying to copy n' paste the saved addies, etc -- and it gives you 'the finger', if I remember correctly.

Anyway, that certainly made the conversion easier!

BTW, I installed Startpage (as my default engine), Ghostery, TinEye Reverse Image Search, PDF Viewer (PDF JS), and Statler & Waldorf Scrollbars -- and, they all work fine.

Looks like a pretty descent beta!

I opened 50 websites in 50 tabs, and it handled it just fine.

Then, I opened 50 streaming radio stations in 50 tabs. Handled that just fine, too, but my poor little laptop CPU was running @ 83C, so I decided to quit while I was ahead.

Just played my favorite online flash game, which is horribly 'resource intensive' -- brings many machines to its knees. It handled it without a hitch -- no flash crash, etc.

I'm convinced the Maxthon browser is every bit as stable as any version of Chromium that I normally run.

I'll give it a rest, for today, and start checking out their cloud services, tomorrow. I think I read, somewhere, that they already have 100 million clients. They're just a little late to the Linux party. ;)

Aha, there it is..

Quote:
About Maxthon

Maxthon is an innovative software company that develops superior web browsers that continue to set new standards for speed, security, simplicity and cloud features. It is available on the Windows, Android, iOS and Mac platforms. With offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, Maxthon reaches a global community of users that tops more than 120,000,000 people each month in more than 150 countries.

BTW, that blog post is talking about their iPhone / iPad / iOS browser(s). Isn't Peppermint developing a smart phone?!?!?

Maybe you could kill_two_birds_with_one_stone, e.g. use Maxthon as the default browser across all Peppermint platforms.

BBL
