Any one have a good dark theme for P4 prefer black with...... black lol, and perhaps neon blue icons in italic bold, not necessary of course, i just like that type of theme...

Ive done some net searches and my lord, it can get tedious.... many links don't work for some, well many actually, (old sites i gather) but others do, but don't fit what im looking for... I tried to get the royal dragon dark and light to have a look at it, but them links don't work...

I basically don't like the white background, especially on the browsers (due to my sensitive eyes) so has anyone got any theme remotely close to what I'd like from the above request?

Thanks in advance

oceania :D

Hi Emegra,

Thanks for that, yes Ive looked at Gnome-look.org, there are a few good ones there, but not one i've found to be what I'm after, but i will keep looking though maybe I will find something more to my liking, and hopefully without all the "hoohah" of install this and install that...

Peppermint's own art director Daniel Burke has created a Peppermint-Dark theme .. he stresses it's an unfinished "work in progress", but I like it pretty much as is :)

Daniel also says he'd welcome any feedback/critique .. so he can make possible adjustments/improvements
(post any comments here, and I'll make sure he sees them .. TIA)

You can download the original from his Google Drive:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0RUW5 ... sp=sharing
direct download link:
https://doc-10-9k-docs.googleuserconten ... e=download

and/or a slightly edited version with lighter window titlebar text from my dropbox:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/118 ... ted.tar.gz

OK, to install/use ....

Unpack the archive(s) you've downloaded to your
~/.themes
directory
(be aware .themes is a hidden directory in your home folder, so you'll have to "show Hidden" files in the file manager, or hit Ctrl+H whilst in your home folder)

If you don't have a ~/.themes directory, create one.

Once unpacked, go to

menu > Preferences > Customise Look and Feel > Widget (tab)

and select Peppermint-Dark-XXXXXXX

then do the same at

menu > Preferences > Window Manager > Style (tab)

then close ALL windows and reopen them.

Any problems installing, just ask :)

Ok after a few fiddles around, I've found that the .themes *when I had to create it, (under root, mkdir /.themes) I naturally thought *home folder, so i when looking... silly me, didn't realise it a */ . meaning root... anyway I found .themes in the */root folder. Either way, not sure if the customise and look and feel windows found it or Orion-Peppermint was already in there, have no idea... So I tweaked it myself, still not what Id like but its ok for now,

I found the task bar didn't change, nor the background wallpaper, most other things did change which is ok, i suppose, can't do much to the browsers, I just don't like the white backgound sites, i prefer black... I wear tinted glasses for reading so its not so bad..

I may look into other themes and see how they go...

First of all "~/.themes" means a folder called ".themes" in YOUR home folder .. so if your username is "user" it would mean
/home/user/.themes
(~ is just short for the current users home folder)
My screenshot shows the folder on my system at /home/mark/.themes ;)

Secondly the theme will NOT adjust the bottom panel (taskbar), that has to be done manually by right clicking the bottom panel and selecting Panel Settings > Appearance

thirdly LXDE themes do not contain wallpapers as there no d3efault place for wallpapers to be stored .. you can store them anywhere, then right-click the desktop and select "Desktop Preferences" then navigate to your wallpaper.

Wallpapers and bottom panel tend to be left to the individual.

and lastly .. that theme DOES change the background of Chromium from white to black .. but not on pages where there's a white background IMAGE (that AFAIK cannot be changed)
but if you open a new tab in Chromium it will definitely have a dark background with that theme.

Anyway .. hope you find one that suits :)

DeviantArt has a pretty good collection of themes, and I'm pretty sure all the links work there, as they host the files.
You probably won't find many themes with a true black base color though, as it leave no margin for shading or transitions. Once you go black, everything else is noticeably different and the contrast can quickly become an optical illusion.

As for changing the colors of websites....that gets tricky. I know there are apps/extensions for browsers that intercept and manually override the CSS files for Facebook. There are probably ones for other sites too. It is a crapshoot though, because 1) it's not the UX that the site's creator wanted 2) It slows down your browsing 3) It seems like it'd be easy to exploit for ill gain.
You could setup various scripts on your router to flip all the colors of all websites to their negatives, but that seems like it'd be complex to do and messy to work with. I've only heard of it being done to mess with people trying to steal wifi from their neighbors.
