It actually has nothing to do with the theme itself, it's just a slideshow desktop wallpaper. However, LXDE doesn't have this ability "out of the box" (as far as I know) and I don't know if there's any kind of add-on you can install to add that feature. I'd suggest searching in the Software/Package Manager and see if there's a desktop slideshow program you can install.

There's a script to change the wallpaper to a random .jpg from a given directory at a given interval here:

if that helps ?

I've tested it, and it appears to work :)

Did you remember to put "sudo" in front of it?

I've seen several different program for Ubuntu that switch the wallpapers every so often. I would think any of them will work. Webupd8 wrote an article giving a few of the the run-down a few months ago.
If you are looking for a real, modern, Windows look and feel, I've seen a Windows 8-style metro interface for linux that works pretty well. I believe it's written in python and available on deviantart. Don't know why anyone would actually want it though.

It's sad that you have to install a program with Ubuntu (and Gnome 3 in general) to add a feature that was there by default in earlier versions of Ubuntu with Gnome 2. :roll:

I *seriously* doubt if any wallpaper slideshow applications for Ubuntu would work in Peppermint because of Peppermints LXDE desktop environment.

I'd expect all the Ubuntu ones to use GConf to change wallpaper .. which won't work in LXDE.

LXDE uses a completely different method to set/change the wallpaper to Unity and GNOME.

Hence why I suggested that script.

================================================

@ geordiejohn

You *should* be able to create/save the script (without sudo) as long as it's in your Home directory .. so run:
Code:
gedit ~/.wallpaper-rotate.sh

(bear in mind because we've started the name of the script with a "." it will be hidden by default)

then copy/paste the contents of the script from the link .. don't forget to change the path to whatever folder you decide to keep the .jpg(s) in (and the change interval if you want) .. then SAVE the script.

Then make it executable with:
Code:
chmod +x ~/.wallpaper-rotate.sh

Now open File Manager (pcmanfm) and hit Ctrl+H to display the hidden files .. left-click the .wallpaper-rotate.sh file (in your home folder) and select "Execute"

the wallpaper should change every 10 mins .. or whatever you set it to.

if that works .. let me know and I'll tell you how to autostart the script at bootup.

================================================

Remember, this shell script chooses a .jpg at random, so it may choose the same one twice (or even 3 times) on the trot .. in which case you won't see it change for 30 mins.

The more .jpg(s) you have in the chosen folder, the less chance it will pick the same one multiple times on the trot.

================================================

There is also a different solution here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2076417
that will change the wallpaper at each login//boot.

Just create the randomwallpaper.desktop in your -

/home/<username>/.config/autostart

directory, and it will run at each login.

If you want to use this method instead of the one above, and need full instructions .. let me know :)

Code:
gedit ~/.wallpaper-rotate.sh

then post a link to the pastebin.
