I will start by admitting that this is not an issue of Peppermint but of how Windows Phone mobiles operate and misbehave with Linux in general...

I have an LG Optimus 7 Windows Phone, which I am going to replace soon with one of the Nokia Lumias (also Windows Phones). Unfortunately it seems that there is no way of retrieving the contents of the mobile phone when it is connected to my Peppermint OS 4-powered Acer Aspire One 751h. The only thing that takes place is charging the phone.

I have tried searching the web for a solution but could not apply any of the existing ones (my knowledge in Linux is limited), so I was wondering if there is any Peppermint OS user who happens to own any Windows Phone and has managed to connect his mobile to Peppermint.

Thanks in advance!

Hi geoponer

Can you tell us what version of Peppermint you have ?, I think you need to have libmtp to access a Windows phone and I don't think it was installed as default until Peppermint 4

As Emegra says you need mtp libraries (libmtp).
Installing mtpfs will bring libmtp9 with it. To install.....
Code:
sudo apt-get install mtpfs

May require a reboot

Thank you both for your replies. As mentioned in my original post, my netbook is running Peppermint 4, always up-to-date.

@mac: Thanks for providing me with the exact command; will I have to install/run anything else in order to be able to see the contents of my Windows Phone?

No problem at all; thanks for trying to help!

In the meantime I installed mtp libraries (libmtp) as you and mac suggested, rebooted but still I cannot access the contents of my Windows Phone... I keep getting the following error message:

Any tips?

I can find no reference to the LG Optimus 7 in libmtp
http://sourceforge.net/p/libmtp/code/ci ... -players.h
so it may not be supported yet.

Install mtp-tools:
Code:
sudo apt-get install mtp-tools

then with your phone connected, run:
Code:
mtp-detect

and post the output back here

If the output is extremely long, please post it to pastebin
http://peppermint.pastebin.com/
and post a link to the pastebin back here

Thank again for the help and detailed instructions. The pastebin link is this one: http://pastebin.com/F3yrqZdc

Don't be confused by the mention of Nokia Lumia 800; I have just "fooled" my mobile phone, so that I can have access to the Nokia Marketplace and access specific apps. The hardware is LG Optiumus 7 (or E900),

Can you explain what you did to "fool your phone into thinking it's a Lumia 800" ?

Well, I followed the instructions available here: http://www.albertopasca.it/whiletrue/20 ... g-devices/
It has to to with tweaking the registry of the phone and changing some values from LG to Nokia. Please do not spend more time on this; I will start to feel guilty for wasting your time on that!

Apart from that, everything seems to be working really smoothly with Peppermint OS!
