I am trying to configure ether channel between a cisco ws-c2960s-24ts-lswitch and a linux server. I found out that i needed to use lacp as it supports interoperability between different types of hosts. i followed cisco's guide for forming ether channel. However when i do the configuration the ethernet goes down and the device becomes unpingable.

Mode 4 bonding (for Ubuntu based distros) is covered here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBonding

You *may* also need to set the bonding to mode=4 as suggested (under the "Linux Kernel Module Configuration" heading here:
http://backdrift.org/howtonetworkbonding
