Hi. I just installed Peppermint Four tonight on an HP 2000 Notebook. I am having issues installing the driver for my WLAN chip. It's a Realtek 8188CEb/g/n chip. I've downloaded the drivers from MULTIPLE sources, and every time I try to install them, I get an error when it comes time to configure them.

(the file is already unpacked, so I'll continue on.)

sheeb@sheeb-HP-2000-Notebook-PC ~ $ sudo su
[sudo] password for sheeb:
sheeb-HP-2000-Notebook-PC sheeb # cd /home/sheeb/WifiDriver/
sheeb-HP-2000-Notebook-PC WifiDriver # ls
rtl_92ce_92se_92de_8723ae_88ee_linux_mac80211_0012.0207.2013
sheeb-HP-2000-Notebook-PC WifiDriver # cd rtl_92ce_92se_92de_8723ae_88ee_linux_mac80211_0012.0207.2013
sheeb-HP-2000-Notebook-PC rtl_92ce_92se_92de_8723ae_88ee_linux_mac80211_0012.0207.2013 # ./configure
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
sheeb-HP-2000-Notebook-PC rtl_92ce_92se_92de_8723ae_88ee_linux_mac80211_0012.0207.2013 #

I've got build-essential installed, & everything is up to date.

The proper driver may already be available to you via
menu > Preferences > Software & Updates > Additional Drivers (tab)
Worth a look-see.

BTW, welcome to Peppermint. :)

If you're SURE that's the driver you need.....
(if you NOT sure .. see the bottom of this posting)

That driver (from realtek) won't compile for the 3.8 kernel series (and therefore Peppermint 4) .. so you'll need to clone a modified version from someone's github repo.....

Whilst connected to your router with an ethernet cable, run these commands in sequence:
Code:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-generic build-essential git

then
Code:
mkdir ~/rtl8188ce

then
Code:
cd ~/rtl8188ce

then
Code:
git clone https://github.com/FreedomBen/rtl8188ce-linux-driver.git

then
Code:
cd ~/rtl8188ce/rtl8188ce-linux-driver

then
Code:
make

then
Code:
sudo make install

then:
Code:
sudo modprobe -r r8192

then:
Code:
sudo modprobe rtl8192ce

If wireless springs to life, check it survives a reboot .. and is still using the rtl8192ce driver.

======================================================

If you're not sure this is the right driver .. post the output from:
Code:
lspci -vnn | grep -i net

I got as far as commanding make before I returned another error...

It seems you've received a kernel update, but haven't rebooted yet

Can you go to -

Code:
menu > System Tools > Software Updater

and accept any updates (if any).

then REBOOT

then post the output from:
Code:
uname -a

and
Code:
dpkg -l | grep linux-headers-generic

and
Code:
dpkg -l | grep linux-image-extra

Updated, rebooted. Before the update, my software updater was telling me it failed to download my repository information, and to check my internet connection. My internet connection is fine, I had clicked try again three or four times, still failed. Went ahead and clicked okay, and it continued updating.
