So I have an assignment that I am stuck on. I have to get Server08 and Peppermint to see each other. I have looked up tons of information and can still not find an answer on how to do this. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Install samba and smbclient
Code:
sudo apt-get install samba smbclient

Reboot if necessary.

Now in your file manager (pcmanfm) got to

Go > Network Drives > Windows Network

can it see whatever you have shared on the 08 server

What is the name of the domain/workgroup ?

Has the 08 server got a static IP .. what is it ?

Can you ping the servers IP from Peppermint and get a response ?
Code:
ping -c 5 <IP.of.08.server>

eg.
ping -c 5 192.168.1 200

This is not my thread, but I have the same issue. :? I have samba and the client installed, but cannot see network items on the domain. The machine is joined to the domain and shows up in AD. I guess what I'm trying to do is map a drive.
Domain name is xxx.xx
ip is 10.XXX.XXX.XXX
I am able to ping it.

What happens if you put

smb://10.xxx.xxx.xxx/
or
smb://<servername>/
(where <servername> is the actual servername)

into Peppermints file manager address bar and hit enter

As is often the case, I was looking for a more complicated solution. Typing the ip address works.
If I wanted to automount the drives, how would I go about that? I've bookmarked them in file manager, and if I tick remember login forever, would that be about the same?

to automount them properly at bootup would require the creation of a "credentials" file and an entry in fstab for the mount.

If simply bookmarking the fuse mount gives you any problems .. let me know and we'll do that ;)

These are not drives I need every day, so just bookmarking should be good for now.
As far as I'm concerned, this can be marked <Solved> :)
Thanks again for your help.

Ok, now i've moved on to my home network and I'd like to automount a shared external drive on a Win7 PC. I can bookmark it, view files, etc. I'd like to have it automount and then address any permission issues. This is a drive that it used everyday by all family members and I need to make things as simple as possible. ;)

Browse to the share (or click your bookmark) .. now what's in the file manager address bar ?

and does the share require authentication ?
