hello one and all, i'm typing on the old Toshiba... so...middle of the afternoon yesterday 8/3 my wifi disconnects... and i'm now getting an endless number of requests for the wifi password... but the laptop never connects to my network...

obviously not a home network issue as this old Qosmio connected effortlessly... i'm assured that other half made no changes to our home wireless router's settings...

didn't see any reference to this issue on the peppermint forums... but did find a reference on a fedora forum which never had an answer, thus didn't offer me any solutions

https://ask.fedoraproject.org/question/9943/authentication-required-by-wireless/

here's a pastebin of my dmesg ... http://pastebin.com/fF5Kthy5

but its all geek to me..

If you haven't just installed a kernel update .. have you tried deleting ALL wireless profiles in NetworkManager, rebooting the router, then attempting to creat a new connection ?

since all other machines are operating on the wifi network properly... that wasn't something that came to mind... but will try... and no, no new kernels have been installed since last week... ;)

after three reboots of the laptop... i've finally connected to the same wifi network all five other computers have been connected to all day long... started out at 60% and now saying its 89% ... wonder how to diagnose if the wifi card is dying or something?

That's what it sounds like, a dying adapter. I don't know jow to comfirm that, though.

Could it just be radio interference where that PC is situated ?

dunno... was just sitting here on the couch... wireless google tv box about 10 feet to my left... wireless router is in another room 25 feet away... was just strange.. was sitting here working away on the laptop and then then suddenly the wifi network was gone... couldn't get it back last night... turned it off and went out for the night...

really irritating... :x

If it's a one off I'd just chalk it up as "one of those things" .. if it happens again, yeah try another wireless adapter.

I can sit on my couch in my living room with my laptop on my lap and surf/download at top speed. However, if I put the laptop on the coffee table in front of me, the speed goes to crap. (down almost to dialup speed) I pick the laptop back up off of the coffee table and the speed goes back up. The couch and coffee table are just a few feet away from the modem and WIFI router, both of which are on the TV cabinet in the living room. In fact, the coffee table is slightly closer to the modem and router.

So, yeah, weird stuff sometimes happens with WIFI.

other half revealed he'd been having trouble with his samsung tablet shutting off and on... he discovered two neighbors had joined us on our wifi channel 11, and that one neighbor's wifi is now named mydoom.exe :? ... he changed channels and surfing has been brilliant ever since...
