I am having trouble burning a Windows 7 .img file to USB. First, I tried Unetbootin, but when I try to boot from the USB drive I get a "Boot Mgr is missing" error. Next, I tried sudo dd if= command. Once that finished, I tried booting from the USB drive, and it output another error, something about missing the setup/installation files. In each case, I first used GParted to format and re-partition the drive, either as FAT32 or NTFS, with the boot flag set. Finally in desperation, I tried running Win32 Disk Imager and Windows 7 USB DVD Tool via Wine (both work flawlessly in Windows itself), but neither worked (the former wouldn't let me select the USB drive to write to, the latter just wouldn't launch).

If Windows worked, I would just do it in there, but that's not even an option. I can't successfully boot into the desktop, system errors cause the computer to reboot.

Does anyone know of another Linux program I can use to successfully burn a Windows 7 .img file to a USB drive to install Windows 7?

Dunno if this will work for a Win7 img file .. but try this.

Install usb-imagewriter:
Code:
sudo apt-get install usb-imagewriter

Then run it from

menu > Accessories > ImageWriter

Make sure you have a USB stick inserted BEFORE starting ImageWriter.

The version for Peppermint 3 can also be downloaded from here:
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/ ... u5_all.deb
or a later version from Mint:
http://packages.linuxmint.com//pool/ups ... t2_all.deb

or a version for Peppermint 4 (as it's no longer in the 13.04 repos) from here:
http://packages.linuxmint.com//pool/ups ... t2_all.deb

Oh yes, I tried that as well. I had the details expanded so I could see what was going on. It looks like it attempts to unmount the drive, unmounts it, and then nothing happens. The activity indicator LED on the USB stick doesn't blink indicating that the drive is being accessed. :-\

I don't think anyone can really answer this without knowing how the img was created
