Hello All,

New to the forum (and Linux). Installed Peppermint 4 on a Shuttle I built years ago (still had W98 on it). Install was much easier and quicker than any Windows install I ever did.
Everything seems to be working. Only hard part was Wine, and getting the Windows program AnyRail installed in it. The forums and internet searches turned up a lot of confusing, incomplete, contradicting, and just plain didn't work answers! Fumbled around for days before accidentally finding the answer. If anyone is having the same problem, I could post what worked for me.

The reason for this post is kind of a nit pik. I installed Cairo dock from the program manager. Installed easily, and works great, but has a Ubuntu icon for the applications menu launcher, NOT the Peppermint icon. There doesn't seem to be a way to change just that icon. Does anyone else have this, and if so, did you find a way to change it ?

Sams dad

I'm not real familiar with cairo dock, but you should be able to right-click on the launcher, go to the modify option and change the image path to whatever icon you desire. The default location for the peppermint icons should be /usr/share/peppermint/images
Or, you could find the icon in the ~/.cairo-dock/current_theme/icons folder, and replace it with the icon you want. Just keep the file name the same and it should work out alright.

Again, I'm not an expert on cairo dock, and PCNetSpec will probably be along shortly with better solutions.

Thanks!!!
My paths were slightly different, but you got me going in the right direction. The peppermint icon I wanted to use came out squished horizontally on the dock, so I chose a generic star icon from the Cairo folder.
Not perfect, but better than the inappropriate Ubuntu one.

This is my first experience on ANY forum, and I am impressed with the speed and results!

Thanks again, Sams dad

Here's 2 svg icons you can use
(Ignore that they look small here .. they will scale to the correct size when applied)

Image

Image

Both SVG'sin a zip file here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11876059/Peppermint-Cairo-Menu-Item-svg.zip

To Apply them .. copy them to somewhere on your system such as
/usr/share/icons

Now right-click on the cairo-dock "Applications Menu" icon and select
Applications Menu > Edit

now navigate to
Current Items > Applications menu > Icons (tab)

and change
Image Filename: /usr/share/icons/Peppermint-Logo.svg
by using the "Open" button and browsing to wherever you save the icon(s).

Click "Apply"

The icon on Cairo Dock should now have changed.

======================================================

I *think* the chosen icon is now stored in this config file:
~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme/plug-ins/GMenu/Gmenu.conf
but probably safer to set it through the GUI as above.

You're most welcome :)

Hope you don't mind but I'm going to move this topic to the "Software and Applications" forum section, and mark it solved .. it makes more sense there, and may help a future searcher :)

I'll PM you a link to it's new location, and if you'd (for some reason) prefer it not marked as (SOLVED), please let me know.
