This is specifically in Peppermint Four, but I seem to have the same problem in Peppermint Three.

On my keyboard, I have a button labelled "PrtSc" which I think means 'Print Screen' - in other words 'Take a Screenshot'. But it doesn't work.

Is there any way I can enable the PrtSc key, and have it automatically place a screenshot onto my desktop?

Are you sure it's not placing a picture into your home folder every time you press it ?

Oh dear. I've been stupid again.

Yes I've got screenshots in my home folder.
Thanks for reminding me where to find them.
Sorry

Mark, as regards putting the screenshot automatically onto the Desktop rather than in the Home folder, does the procedure you gave for Peppermint Two (http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?top ... 6#msg73886) work for Peppermint Four as well?

NO .. you'd need to edit the "Print Screen" and "Print Window" actions in xbindkeys-config.
(menu>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts)

Let me know if you want me to write up instructions.

[EDIT]

OK, here's the easiest way -

Run:
Code:
gedit ~/.xbindkeysrc

Find the 2 sections that read:-

Code:
#Print Screen
"scrot"
   Print

#Print Window
"scrot -u -b"
   Alt + Print

and change them to:-

Code:
#Print Screen
"scrot 'Screenshot_%Y-%m-%d_%H:%M:%S.png' -e 'mv $f ~/Desktop/'"
   Print

#Print Window
"scrot -u -b 'Screenshot_%Y-%m-%d_%H:%M:%S.png' -e 'mv $f ~/Desktop/'"
   Alt + Print

SAVE the file

Log OFF/ON .. to reload xbindkeys

Now try PrtSc
and Alt+PrtSc

PrtSc = full screenshot
Alt+PrtSc = take a screenshot of just te active window

Thank you for the offer.
I should be delighted if you would kindly write up the instructions.

Many thanks once again.
But I feel guilty about all the extra work I'm giving you.

Thank you VERY much, Mark, for going to all this trouble on my behalf.

I followed your instructions and I'm happy to report that PrtSc now works perfectly and places a screenshot onto my desktop.

Incidentally Alt+PrtSc does not seem to work for me, but that's not a problem - I'm more than happy with what I've got!

As this info could be useful to others, do you think I should edit the subject of my first post to read Screenshot on desktop in Peppermint Four {Solved)???

Your kindness is much appreciated,
Thanks again,
Tony
