Wired connection has slowed to a crawl on Peppermint 2, 64 bit. Lot of sites will time out. I thought it was my cat 5 cable, so I put in a new cat 6, and new connectors. Peppermint2, and Mint 13 both act the same. I am having to use windows to access the internet now, so my connection is fine. Fault lies with the OS. Wireless doesn't work with Mint, or PM2. Specs are MSI 760GM-P23 mobo,AMD FX8120, octa core processor, 8 gig DDR3, Samsung 128gig SSD, 500 gig HD. Realtek ethernet driver, and a cable modem.

Sorry Mac, I can't post the output of these two commands. Mint and Peppermint can't stay connected long enough to do anything. I am FORCED to use windows as that is the only reliable internet connection I have. Everything was running fine until last week, and all of a sudden the wired connection is off and on, constantly. Even on mail, download will stop and start. Foxfire times out on a lot of connections, trying to download packages is useless, update manager can't stay online. I switched from Mint 13 to Mint 11, and was okay until I downloaded all the updates. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!

Run the commands and look for the driver actually being used in the output. Chances are it is the r8169 driver which Ubuntu derivatives have a tendency to load but it is the wrong driver. You can use another machine (or even Windows) to download the correct driver from realtek. Follow the instructions HERE
Good luck!

mac

Thanks Mac, I appreciate all your help. I had a Linksys NIC card, in an older computer, put it in here and everything runs fine now.
